Clauses Made Simple

This website profiles many property and investment resources and products. The products are all badged under the “Made Simple” range and have their origins in my first book, “Clauses Made Simple”.

This book is now into its third edition and has become an industry standard for those many people involved directly and indirectly in the world of Real Estate and Property. The third edition is a compilation of almost 450 clauses. All of the clauses are in simple English and have been road tested in real life property and business transactions.

This book was specifically designed for use in Queensland but many of the clauses can be readily adapted in other Australian states with the remainder adapted for use by a competent solicitor or conveyancer. In essence the book is a catalogue of precedent clauses with suggestions about how to use them where their use is not self explanatory and where I believe it is appropriate to make a comment.

If you are looking at the book as solicitor or conveyancer then I believe it will be of real help to you as there is nothing like having someone else’s work to start with when you are called upon to draft a contract or special clauses for a Contract of Sale.

If you are visiting this website as a real estate or legal student then you will quickly realise that my mantra is “education and more education”. Once you become a qualified solicitor and conveyancer you will learn that it is only human to make mistakes but the best antidote for mistakes is education. Educate yourself about how to use clauses prepared by other experienced practitioners and your professional life will become less stressful and not as much toil.

If you are visiting this site as a practicing real estate agent or business broker then you know already that there are times that you are regularly called upon to prepare or assist in the preparation of Contracts of Sale and special clauses and you have a responsibility to undertake this task competently. Or, to put it in your “lingo”, to write watertight contracts. The book will assist you in your education on how to do so.

If you are looking at the book, or any of the other products for that matter, as an investor then I believe you can use this resource to educate yourself about how to become more savvy and street smart as an investor. Real estate agents and business brokers usually operate on the principle “Less is Yes”. That is, the less clauses they have in your offer to purchase the more likely they are to get a Yes from the Seller to your offer. So therefore they will not usually suggest or promote such clauses and it is up to you to educate yourself about how to use them.
